"Chord melody" is a loose term that means playing chords and melody at the same time. "Solo guitar" is the art of playing without any other instruments; playing a complete piece of music with just the guitar by itself.

Solo guitar usually includes bass and harmony as well as melody, but it doesn't have to. Though it's rare, some solo guitar pieces are played with only single notes (two or more notes are never played at the same time). The only requirement for a piece to be called "solo guitar" is that it's meant to be played by itself on one guitar.  

Chord melody arrangements can be played as solo guitar pieces, but they can also be played with other instruments such as bass and drums.

You do not need to already be able to read music to benefit from this course. In the program, I do provide training on how to make chord melody arrangements from lead sheets (sheet music that shows chord symbols and melody notation), but the method I use is intended for players who have never read music before. 

You're not alone! For many of us, finding time to practice is one of the biggest challenges. If you can commit to practicing roughly for 30 minutes, 5 days per week, you'll be in great shape. Sometimes it won't feel like progress is happening in the moment, but if you stick to that schedule, you'll be amazed at how far you can go over time. 

I get asked this a lot. It's completely up to you, but my recommendation is that we should never get too bogged down by "finishing" or "perfecting" something before moving on. Rotating between everything we're interested in learning is more effective for our practice than focusing on too much of one thing at a time. Because of this, I typically recommend working through multiple courses in tandem by rotating through them little by little. It's totally okay that it takes longer before finishing a program when you practice that way because, in the end, there is no "finishing". We want to be playing and using everything that we find musically valuable as often as possible just like a language. That's why I make all of my courses to be long-game guides and not "quick-wins" to get through.

Chord melody is not an easy technique to get the hang of, but the work it takes it SO worth it. That being said, I've seen relatively new guitar players get the hang of how to make chord melody arrangements in this course. Yes, you can use any type of guitar to play chord melodies. I often play chord melodies with a nylon string acoustic guitar.

Steel-string acoustic guitar can be much harder to play chord melodies on because often the string tension is higher and the action (the distance between the strings and the fretboard) is higher. But if you get your guitar set up so it plays easily and smoothly (which can be accomplished with lighter strings and lower action), then you'll be fine!
