How to Make 7th Chords - Guitar Theory Lesson (chords series, Ep. 8)

beginning guitarist chord theory series: how to learn guitar chords - beginner to advanced chords music theory scales Dec 08, 2020

This is a lesson on the music theory of how to make 7th chords - Guitar chords don't have to just be shapes we memorize!

I've had students who knew a bunch of awesome chord shapes but were stuck not making progress.

Once they learned the underlying theory behind the chords they loved I watched them excel again and reach a new level of creativity.

That's what I want for you!

I have a few amazing exercises for mastering 7th chords on the guitar and I can't wait to share them with you over the next few weeks!

It's tempting to dive into those exercises right away because the best learning happens during our hands-on practice, but I'd like to set the stage first and thoroughly explain where 7th chords come from and why they're structured the way they are.

This is a good one—with lots of fun graphics to help you follow along—so if you're curious about theory at all I encourage you to check it out.

I hope you enjoy. Thanks!
