Spread triads are all the rage in the guitar world right now—and for good reason. They sound beautiful and are incredibly versatile.
If you’ve seen my other lessons, you know I don’t just skim the surface. If I’m going to work on something, I want to explore it methodically and thoroughly.
That’s exactly what I’ve done in today’s triad inversions guitar lesson.
We’ll go through every single spread triad guitar shape along the middle strings, in every inversion, connected through voice leading in a way that sounds fantastic.
Each chord in the exercise changes by only a whole step or half step, gradually moving down the fretboard and covering all voicings and shapes.
I’ve created a lovely etude to make the process musical, and as always, everything is clearly written out on screen—notation, tab, fingerings, chord shapes, and chord names—so you can easily follow along.
I’ve even included classical roman numeral analysis markings to indicate the exact triad inversion of each chord (you’ll see what I mean in the lesson).
If you want to truly map out your spread triads and inversions on the guitar, this is a beautiful and effective way to do it.
