When songwriting on the guitar it’s easy to get stuck on one idea that sounds good and not be able to break away from it.
When we finally finish a song it might end up not feeling like it goes anywhere, or several of our songs might turn out sounding very similar to each other.
These challenges can be solved by being able to confidently compose unique, complimentary yet contrasting melodic material over an existing chord progression.
One easy and fun way to do this is to use the fretboard to find melodic territory that you haven’t explored yet while songwriting.
In every chord progression there are “built in melodies” just waiting to be discovered!
In this video I break down how to find them within the chords you’re already playing.
