I’m really excited to share this one with you—these advanced guitar chords are some of my all-time favorites. Because they’re so easy to play and sound beautiful.
I’ve composed a simple modal interchange guitar etude to help you explore using beautiful, open-sounding advanced guitar chords.
We’re using triads along three strings, while leaving the other strings open—creating a rich, resonant texture that feels harmonically deep and spacious.
Then, by borrowing chords from the parallel major and minor keys (modal interchange), we create smooth chromatic movement—without needing to barre or play anything physically demanding.
The result? Some of the lushest, most harmonically interesting, and easy-to-play advanced guitar chords can get in the key of E.
To bring it all together, the modal interchange guitar etude includes a strumming pattern that really makes these chords shine.
If you’re curious about modal interchange, or just want to learn some new, advanced-sounding (but easy to play) chords in E, this lesson is for you.
