This is another episode of my latest YouTube series called “Make It a Chord Melody”.

Quick note: After next week I’ll be taking a break from the topic of chord melodies, but I’ll continue adding to this series in the future.

I want to share an important concept with you in today’s video.

Chord melodies - harmonizing melodies with chord shapes - aren't just for jazz.

We can play any melody—nursery rhymes, traditional tunes, pop songs, folk repertoire, country music, anything!—as a chord melody.

No matter what kind of music you’re into, this practice allows you to hear the harmony and the melody at the same time on one instrument.

To demonstrate this, in this lesson, I teach you how to play "Long Black Veil" on guitar as a chord melody.

“Long Black Veil” is an excellent example that contrasts the sound of jazz: the melody is based on a pentatonic scale, and the chords are simple I, IV, V triads.

The end result is lovely!
